Tax Levy

At the upcoming regular meeting of the Rochester #3A Board of Education on December 11, 2024, a public hearing, presentation and review the 2024 Tax Levy will be conducted. The Board’s approval of the levy resolution is an important step in sustaining the school district’s financial health, which supports our ability to maintain a high standard of education, support our dedicated staff, and provide valuable resources for our students.

A tax levy is simply the process by which the school district determines the revenue needed to fund essential operations, educational programs, and infrastructure. Importantly, this levy does not increase property taxes. School districts, like other taxing bodies, tend to request a slightly higher levy amount to ensure we receive all the funds we are entitled to—this process includes what is called a “Truth in Taxation Hearing.” The approach for this year’s levy remains consistent with past years, and no substantial changes are proposed. The official Truth in Taxation Hearing notice to be held on December 11, 2024 is found at the this link https://core-docs.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/2145/ROCHESTER3A/5009599/Truth_in_Taxation_Notice-2024_Levy.pdf

In addition to maintaining necessary funding, the Board of Education remains committed to being fiscally responsive to our community. Once again, the Board of Education will abate $300,000 in property taxes through funds generated by the 1% countywide sales tax. This "Resolution Abating a Portion of Taxes Heretofore Levied" will apply directly to reduce property taxes previously allocated for the construction of the Rocket Athletic Center (RAC), utilizing General Obligation School Refunding Bonds issued in 2016. This abatement represents a significant, community-focused decision by the Board, resulting in direct savings for property taxpayers.

We are proud to say that Rochester #3A remains a high-quality, "lighthouse" school district known for exceptional educational standards, dedicated teachers, and comprehensive programs—all while maintaining one of the lowest tax rates in the area. The comparative table below demonstrates how Rochester #3A's tax rate remains competitive, even as we continue to make strides in delivering top-tier education.
