For years, fans, students, and staff have all walked past the pillars at Rocket Booster Stadium's front gate, ready for fun and excitement. On those pillars and the paving bricks just inside the gates were etched the names of some of Rochester's families who helped make the facility what it is today. But now, those pillars are gone.
"Most of the individuals and families who contributed to the previous stadium renovation are some of the most loyal supporters of Rochester Schools and Athletics. We want to make sure their piece of Rocket Booster Stadium is preserved," said Acting Superintendent Suzanne Keller.
At the initial stages of the project at the stadium, crews approached their work on the entryway with the precision of archaeologists, carefully preserving and removing as many bricks and blocks as possible. Unfortunately, not all could be saved due to prolonged exposure to the elements. However, the ones that were successfully preserved are now safely stored and waiting to be given back to each donor who would like them.
Although the familiar facade may be gone, the district is working with the project managers to make sure those initial donors and their mark on Rochester Schools aren't forgotten.
“We deeply appreciate the support of our community and the generous contributions of those who dedicated their time and resources to Rocket Booster Stadium. As we continue the stadium's renovations, we are excited to announce plans to honor these individuals by displaying their names in recognition of their efforts that brought us to this significant milestone,” Keller said.
As for the blocks and bricks, the Rochester administration is working to return them to families. Families who would like to keep their brick or block as a memento are encouraged to contact the District Office to arrange a pickup. To schedule a time, please call 217-498-6210 or email Kris Kahler at kkahler@rochester3a.net. Please note that pickup appointments must be scheduled at least a day in advance.
