A fourth seat on the Rochester Board of Education will now be up for election during the upcoming consolidated election. This update was announced by Board President Amy Reynolds at the January Board of Education meeting.
"A miscalculation was brought to our attention indicating that the board seat currently held by Daniel Bailey will also be on the ballot for the upcoming election," Reynolds stated.
The additional seat became available following the resignation of former Board President Dr. Christie Magoulias during the December Board meeting. At that time, board members believed they could appoint someone to complete the remainder of Magoulias’ term based on the portion she had already served. Before discovering the miscalculation, the Board appointed Daniel Bailey to fulfill the rest of her term, which was initially expected to last two more years before the seat would be up for election.
Previously, the Board announced that three seats would be on the ballot. Two seats became vacant after the sudden resignations of two board members in October, and the third is currently held by incumbent and Board Vice President Todd Hannah.
The filing period for candidates to appear on the ballot has already closed. However, individuals still have until January 31 to file as a write-in candidate. Daniel Bailey has confirmed that he has already filed to run as a write-in following this update.
Currently, four candidates names will appear on the ballot (listed here in alphabetical order by last name): Todd Hannah (Incumbent), Sarah Kerley, Kristin LaMontagne, Aaron Taft
The consolidated election will take place on April 1st, 2025.
