DRILLS
Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for all of us. We have a crisis management and emergency preparedness plan for our school that is reviewed and updated regularly. Our plan includes procedures on how to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Students and staff regularly practice these drills every school year including hard lockdown drills. RHS will be conducting a hard lockdown drill with the local authorities on Thursday, August 31. If you have any concerns, please contact the office at 217-498-9761, Ext. 3235.
CLASS OFFICER ELECTIONS
Please remember to vote for Class Officers by the end of the school day TODAY, Wednesday, August 30. Mrs. Leonard sent an email out to all students with voting information.
GUIDELINES FOR ROCHESTER VARSITY FOOTBALL HOME GAMES
Intermediate and Elementary students will not be admitted to the game without a parent or adult.
JR High students must be prepared to show an ID to enter the game.
Footballs are not allowed inside the stadium. All balls will be confiscated.
There will be no re-entry for students in grades K through 12.
Open containers/Yeti mugs are not allowed inside the stadium
All tickets can be purchased at the gate on Friday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Tailgating is allowed, but only on either the far east end of the parking lot (near the tree line) or the far west end (by the tennis courts).

GERMAN CLUB INFORMATION

SPANISH CLUB INFORMATION
Whether you're already in Spanish 1, 4, or not in Spanish class at all, our club is the perfect place for you to explore, learn, and connect with others who share your passion. To join, simply fill out this form and submit your $5.00 dues to Srta. Miller or Senora Veenstra by NO LATER THAN Friday, September 1. JUNIORS: PSAT/NMSQT INFORMATION
RHS is offering the PSAT/NMSQT on Wednesday, October 11. Students who take the PSAT/NMSQT and meet other program entry requirements specified in the PSAT/NMSQT Student Guide will enter the National Merit Scholarship Program, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). This test is optional for students. The cost is $18. Checks may be made payable to Rochester High School. Payment needs to be given to Mrs. Schudel in Student Services by September 11.
GREECE TRIP 2024
There is still room and time to sign up for the upcoming trip to Greece. Students, parents, and friends are welcome to travel on this educational tour during July 2024. If this opportunity interests you, please email either Ms. Bilyeu, mbilyeu@rochester3a.net or Ms. Wycoff, lwycoff@rochester3a.net for more information soon! The price for new enrollees will increase on October 1.

PARKING
If you plan on driving a vehicle to school this year, you must fill out the parking survey and pay the parking fee. If you have not already completed the survey, please do so ASAP, Rochester HS Parking Survey. Please make sure you are parking in the correct parking spot. Also, all students that park in the back lot will be required to enter through the MPR doors. Students should not be entering any of the other doors on the back side of the HS. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Tucker in the Principal’s Office.

The RHS PTO is wanting to let you know of an easy way to donate to our organization. RHS does not use Supply Lists like the younger grades, so the RHS PTO helps collect items for HS teachers to start the year. You can make a donation at PayPal - (RHS PTO @rhsrocketspto) OR you can visit our Amazon Wish List at RHS PTO Wish List. The money collected helps buy supplies for the school and helps provide meals for Parent/Teacher conferences and treats during Teacher Appreciation Week. Any donation is greatly appreciated!

AUDIO ESSAY CONTEST
The Rochester VFW is sponsoring the Voice of Democracy audio essay contest. Winners can receive scholarship monies at the local post, district, state, and national levels. Please see Mr. Fitzgerald in Room 1135 for an entry form and more information. Entries are due to Mr. Fitzgerald by October 31.
JUNIORS & SENIORS:
St. John’s College of Nursing in Springfield, Illinois offers an after school program to teach Sangamon County high school juniors and seniors about nurses and their community. There are 12 Wednesday night sessions spread throughout October, November, December, February, March, and April. Sessions will take place at St. John’s simulation center from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Students must have their own transportation. Dinner will be provided. MAYOR’S YOUTH COUNCIL
Are you interested in becoming part of the Mayor's Youth Council? High School students who reside within the City of Springfield, Illinois, and also within Springfield Aldermanic Wards 1-10, are eligible to participate. There are many pockets and unincorporated areas within the city limits. Please check your eligibility by looking up your home address on this link. Interested applicants should see their Guidance Counselor for an application. Deadline to apply is September 1.

Don’t forget to subscribe to “notify me” for your child’s sport, this allows you to get automatic notifications of any schedule changes.
