SADIE HAWKINS DANCE

The Student Council will be sponsoring a Sadie Hawkins Dance on Saturday, February 24 from 8:00-10:00 p.m. in the MPR Gym. The cost is $10.00 per person. Only current Rochester High School Students can attend and you must present your school ID at the door.


RHS DRAMA DEPT. KARAOKE & TRIVIA NIGHT

Don't miss the 80s Karaoke and Trivia Night with the RHS Drama Department.  The Trivia Night will be held on Sunday, February 25 from 6:00-9:00 p.m.  Get a group of 6 and reserve a table, or come as an individual - Just make sure you don't miss out!  The link for tickets - 80s Karaoke and Trivia Night 2/25.


ACADEMIC CHALLENGE RESULTS

RHS students competed at The Academic Challenge Regionals held at LLCC.  In Math, Maria Olson received 3rd, Collin Steele 2nd and Lemuel Chan 1st.  Mairead Zuver placed 2nd in English. Truman Schudel placed 1st in Engineering Graphics and Collin Steele placed 1st in Computer Science. Will Kerwin received 1st place for Biology and 3rd place in Physics. Tucker Loy placed 2nd in Physics and Lemuel Chan placed 1st!  The team placed 2nd overall and will be going to Sectionals in March!


CENTRAL ILLINOIS STEM FAIR VOLUNTEERS

The Central Illinois STEM Fair planning committee is looking for parent volunteers to help with running this annual event.  No experience necessary!  The time required can be as little as one hour on the day of the event.  Jobs the day of the event include helping with ticket taking and registration at the door and helping with cleanup at the end of the day.   We also need a volunteer to help with planning the event.  The organizing committee meets once a week and handles a variety of logistics and publicity tasks that help to make this the biggest K-12 STEM event in Central Illinois.  This is a great way to learn about all the great STEM activities for students.  Please email rochesterstemfair@gmail.com if interested.


HS WRESTLING RESULTS

Results from Regional - Rochester finished in 5th Place.  The following individuals qualified for Sectionals: Ethan Fordham 2nd Place, Pierce Bultman 3rd Place, Conner Carroll 3rd Place, Walker Quimby 3rd Place, Drake Pfeiffer 3rd Place, Eric Anderson 3rd Place, Nick Mrozowski 4th place (alternate for sectionals).


GREECE TRIP

There is still room and time to sign up for the upcoming Greece trip. Students, parents, and friends are welcome to travel on this Educational Tour during July 2024.  The deadline to sign up and pay is March 27! If the opportunity interests you, please email either Ms. Bilyeu or Ms. Wycoff for more information soon!


PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES

Parent/Teacher Conferences for Rochester High School families will be held on Thursday, February 15 from 3:30-8:30 p.m. Conferences will be held VIRTUALLY. Parents should use their Skyward Family Access to schedule 15-minute virtual appointments with their student’s teachers that they would like to visit with through our video conferencing platform.  After scheduling your conference(s), parents will be sent a link by the teacher for each meeting via their email. PHYSICS CLUB MEETING

The Physics Club will meet at 7:45 a.m. this Friday, February 9 in Mrs. Boyer's Room (3156) to discuss plans for the Spring! 


SOPHOMORE CLASS FUNDRAISER

The Sophomore Class is selling Bundt cakes through February 9. The forms will need to be turned in on February 12. The INFORMATIONAL FLYER is attached to this email.


BAND BOOSTERS LASAGNA SUPPER

Tickets are on sale for the Band Boosters Lasagna Supper on TUESDAY, February 13 being served from 5:00-6:30 p.m. in the HS Cafeteria.  Choices include a meat lasagna or vegetable lasagna served with salad, garlic bread, cookies and drink for $15.00 or a hot dog dinner served with chips, cookies and a drink for $6.00.  Dine in and Carry Out Options are available.  Get your tickets here:  Lasagna Supper.


LLCC OPEN HOUSE

LLCC is holding an Open House on Monday, February 19.  The event will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and students can attend at any point during that time frame. LLCC will be offering tours, breakout sessions on Financial Aid and how to pick a major, and many offices will be available for questions or assistance.  Please see the FLYER for more information.


CENTRAL ILLINOIS STEM FAIR TICKETS AVAILABLE

Ticket Registration is open for the 2024 Central Illinois STEM Fair, which will be held on Wednesday, April 10 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the RAC. Last year the STEM Fair hosted 77 exhibits and attracted over 500 attendees from 20 different schools in Central Illinois.  The STEM Fair showcases locally-available STEM activities for students covering a wide range of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.  Reserve your free ticket today at https://central-illinois-stem-fair.odoo.com/.


SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY

SENIORS: The Rochester Education Foundation is offering two (2) one-time $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors of the Class of 2024. Scholarships are now available on their website: https://www.rochestereducationfoundation.org/scholarships.


SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY

SENIORS: The Rochester Youth Athletic Association (RYAA) is pleased to announce the annual Scholarship Application for 2024 is open now through Friday April 12, 2024.   Graduating Seniors who plan to enroll in an accredited Vocational, Technical, two or four-year College or University for the 2024-2025 Academic School Year can apply here.  You do not need to be an active or former RYAA participant to apply.  Please email scholarship@ryaasports.org with any questions. 


LAW ENFORCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The Sangamon County Sheriff Explorers Program is designed to provide hands-on training to youth interested in law enforcement.  Visit www.sangamonil.gov/explorers to download an application. A full list of requirements is also listed on the website.  


COLLEGE NOW ANNOUNCEMENT

College Now students operate on the LLCC Schedule. This means that Spring Recess follows the LLCC schedule (class meetings happen during the schools' spring breaks if they do not coincide with LLCC's) and closings (class cancellations) also follow the LLCC schedule. If LLCC is open, classes meet, regardless of what is happening in the Rochester School District. LLCC weather closing announcements are available at www.llcc.edu.  Students are welcome to join our LLCC Alert system for emergency notifications. ATTENTION SENIOR PARENTS - DEADLINE, 2/29/24

Yearbook Senior Recognition Ads are a great way for parents, families and friends to commemorate student achievements and important milestones. In addition, revenues from Recognition Ads help our school to create a better yearbook. To purchase your ad online, follow the instructions on the attached LETTER TO PARENTS and then click on the LINK to order. There is also a YouTube Instructional Video that may be helpful to watch before placing your order. Jostens is managing your school's yearbook ad sales, so please do not contact or send materials to the school. Please take into account our school's ad content guidelines on the bottom of the attached form during the creation of your ad online. All ad orders must be placed online by 02/29/2024.


SENIORS - SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

The LLCC Foundation Scholarship Application for the 2024-2025 academic year is now open through February 15, 2024.  All students considering or planning to attend LLCC beginning in Fall 2024 are encouraged to apply. Please visit LLCC Scholarships for more information.

RHS PTO INFORMATION

HS Teachers need your help, kleenex and Clorox wipes are needed now to help us get through the cold and flu season!  You can make a donation at PayPal - (RHS PTO @rhsrocketspto) , you can visit our Amazon Wish List at RHS PTO Wish List or you can drop off donations at Student Services. The money collected helps buy supplies for the school and helps provide meals for Parent/Teacher conferences and treats during Teacher Appreciation Week. Any donation is greatly appreciated! 


PARKING

If you plan on driving a vehicle to school this year, you must fill out the parking survey and pay the parking fee.  If you have not already completed the survey, please do so ASAP, Rochester HS Parking Survey. Please make sure you are parking in the correct parking spot.  Also, all students that park in the back lot will be required to enter through the MPR doors.  Students should not be entering any of the other doors on the back side of the HS.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Tucker in the Principal’s Office.


ATHLETICS & ACTIVITIES 

SPORTS ANNOUNCEMENT

If your student plans to participate in one of our upcoming sports seasons, please visit RHS RSchool to register your athlete.  We will also need an updated physical on file.  Don’t forget to subscribe to “notify me” for your child’s sport, this allows you to get automatic notifications of any schedule changes. If you need to check your child’s physical date or have any questions about the registration process, please contact Kim Hauck at khauck@rochester3a.net.
