Around Rochester Big Buddies

At Rochester Schools, fostering meaningful relationships and creating opportunities for personal growth are at the heart of what we do. One of the standout initiatives that embodies this mission is our Big Buddy Program—an inspiring effort that pairs older students with younger ones to build strong connections and a sense of community across grade levels.

The Big Buddy Program is much more than a mentorship opportunity. For younger students, it’s a chance to build confidence and feel supported by having a role model they can look up to. For older students, it offers the chance to develop leadership and communication skills while making a positive difference in the lives of their younger peers.

Recently, as part of our Around Rochester series, we had the opportunity to highlight two of these “buddies” and the incredible bond they share. Their story is a testament to the program’s impact—not only on the students directly involved but also on the broader school community.

By promoting collaboration, empathy, and a sense of belonging, the Big Buddy Program is shaping the future of our students in meaningful ways. It reflects our commitment to ensuring that every student feels seen, supported, and valued throughout their educational journey.

We’re proud to offer initiatives like this that go beyond the classroom and leave a lasting imprint on the lives of our students.
