Good afternoon,
We have several exciting pieces of information to share with you regarding upcoming events and changes. Please check out the items below to learn more.
Free Breakfast for Our Students, Starting Wednesday, August 18th
Beginning tomorrow, all of our students will have access to breakfast at school at no cost to families. We are beginning with pretty simple “grab and go” options (see the updated breakfast & lunch menu), but the goal will be to expand our offerings throughout the year. If students are interested in getting breakfast, there will be a cart at the front drop-off door and bus drop-off door where students can pick it up. They will report to their classrooms, where they will be able to eat breakfast before school begins. No students will be allowed to eat in classrooms after 8:15am, and any students eating should be unmasked for 15 minutes or less while eating, as the breakfast options are pretty simple. Desks of any students who ate breakfast will be wiped down prior to class beginning. Teachers may take their classes to an alternate setting (like outdoors, the cafeteria, a foyer, etc.) if desired and possible. Check out the letter from our Food Service Director, Michelle Wilhour, for more information.
Parent Information Night (Virtual) on Thursday, August 19th from 5:30-6:30pm
Please join us virtually to get more information about the RIS, your child’s teachers, classrooms, and the services that are available to our students. Attached please find a schedule of “showtimes” for teacher presentations. We have structured the night as a series of shorter presentations to allow parents to visit more than one classroom. Your child’s homeroom teacher will be sending out more detailed information containing a Google Meet link to join the video call, a dial-in number and PIN if you’d prefer to join with a regular phone, and their presentations so that you can review the material they will be presenting. Art, Music, and PE classes will also be sending information about how to join their presentations.
RIS families that are new to our district are encouraged to join the “New Family Welcome” session with the office staff from 5:30pm-5:45pm. We hope to provide you with an overview of the district and some opportunities you may be interested in, introduce ourselves, and answer any questions you have.
Any families that wish to speak with anyone in the office, including counseling staff, administrators, and the nurse, can contact us by phone at 217.498.6215 between 5:45pm and 6:30pm. We are happy to speak individually with you.
5th Grade Band Information Night (Virtual) on Thursday, August 19th at 6:45pm
After our building’s Parent Information Night, Mrs. Cathy Parker is going to host a virtual Informational Meeting about 5th grade band. It’s a wonderful program, and we have many students that are interested in joining. Please check out Mrs. Parker’s invitation letter for additional details. All students wishing to participate in band this semester must be registered through the office by Friday, August 27th. A total of $45 ($35 participation fee for band and a $10 fee for access to the Smart Music program) will be due by Friday, September 3rd. If you are interested in band, but need to discuss assistance with fees or a payment plan, please contact the RIS office for more information.
If you have any questions about any of these items, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We’d be happy to help.
Sincerely,
Cassy Carey
RIS Principal
